What is Live Scan?
Live Scan is the name for the electronic fingerprinting process used throughout the state of California. Rather than collecting thumbprints using traditional print cards and ink, an electronic scanning device is used to collect fingerprints. Fingerprints may then be securely transmitted to entities like the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in order to more quickly run background checks.
Background checks are required for a wide variety of licenses – notaries public, contractors, health professionals, and security guards to name a few – in addition to being run to satisfy personal curiosity. Live Scan providers must be licensed and authorized by the State of California in order to provide this service. Performance Live Scan is one such approved provider.
